On 14 February 2020, staff members of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Glavnova V. N. and Rogachyova M. N. held a lecture on “Commemoration day in honor of Russian soldiers who performed the call of duty outside of homeland” for the students of the 7th grades of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school. This lesson was devoted to the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan.
31 years ago, on 15 February 1989, Afghan war ended. Our last soldier crossed the state borderline of USSR. This was Lieutenant General B. V. Gromov. The withdrawal of a limited contingent of Soviet forces from Afghanistan ended.
It was the year of 1979… The fires of the Great Patriotic War stopped a long time ago. Peace and silence reigned on Russian land. Towns and villages were rebuilt. A new generation of youth dreamt of a great future and chose peaceful professions. However, it’s only been a few decades, and a tragic word combination “a local conflict” appeared in our language.
During the lecture, students knew about the course of Afghan war of 1979-1989, the reasons of the entry of Soviet troops in Afghanistan and the historic importance of this military conflict. Children watched a presentation and a video about the war. They read poetry about Afghanistan and some pieces of the letters of those soldiers who did not return home. The kids also told about their acquaintances and relatives – participants of hostilities in Afghanistan. At the end of the lecture, the students listened to Afghan songs, which emerged in the hearts of young people during the war.
