On 29 January 2020, staff members of the department of Bolgar Museum-Reserve “Museums on Nazarovyh Street” Sagirova G., Kutbutdinova Z., Bitunova Y., Khabibullin R., Zaripova A. held a museum lesson on “A story about a fisherman and a beekeeper” for the students of the 5th grade of Bolgar sanatorium-type residential school.
At the lesson, children became acquainted with the specifics of beekeeping and fishing on the Middle Volga. The museum of “The town on the river” devoted to the history of Spassky Uyezd of the Kazan Governorate was chosen not accidentally for this event. Fishing and beekeeping were well developed among the local population because of the favorable conditions. For example, people in 11 of 14 volosts of large Spassky Uyezd were actively engaged in beekeeping.
During the event, students saw an interactive fairytale, which helped them to find out a lot of interesting things about ancient crafts. Children asked many questions and received detailed answers how to become a beekeeper, what equipment he needs, how to take care of bees and use beekeeping products. Lime honey tasting was a sweet surprise for the students. Children also received a nice gift – a jar of floral honey – and took it with them.
At the event, boys and girls knew many interesting facts about fishing. They showed their knowledge taking part in a quiz and learnt to collect parts of a fishing rod. At the end, children had an excursion in the museum of Abdulla Alish – Tatar child author who was born in Spassky Uyezd of the Kazan Governorate. The history of writer’s youth was closely tied to the theme of the lesson because his father was a beekeeper. That was the reason why Alish connected many of his poems and stories with nature.
