On 21 January 2020, staff members of the Department of Guided Tours Organization of Bolgar Museum-Reserve Salimova G.I. and Gaifutdinova O.A. held an event on “A tolerant attitude to each religion is a basis for a sound society” for the after-school group of Bolgar Comprehensive School №2 back to back with the World Day of Religion.
It’s quite interesting and unusual holiday with its own history. However, not everyone understands a purpose of celebration that is why it is necessary to know a history of this memorable day.
The world celebrates this important date for 70 years already. The initiative to create the World Day of Religion belongs to United Nations. The celebration has a long history and comes from the USA. In 1950, one of the religious organizations of the States established the holiday to underline an importance of the world religions and beliefs.
Gradually an increasing number of countries embrace the idea, and then United Nations set the date at the international level as binding on its members.
A purpose of the World Day of Religion is to inform people about a single entity of all religions and focus on bridging divides between the representatives of different faiths. A motto of the holiday is – “Religion must be a cause of unity”.
At the event, children knew about the history of emergence of the holiday. They took part in different competitions with great interest: “Pick the color”, “A ball with wishes”, “Five nuts”. In conclusion, students received sweets and took pictures on the memory.
