On December 23, 2019, researcher of the Department of excursions of the Bulgarian Museum-reserve Khramova G. K. held an interactive, informational and educational event “New year’s holiday” for students of the 1st grade of MBOU “Bulgarian secondary school”.
Who first came up with the idea to celebrate the New year? No one knows for sure! After all, this day is celebrated by all Nations since ancient times. Truth, to every people a New year comes in its time. In addition, there are many different traditions and customs.
For a long time, the ancient Slavs celebrated the New year on March 1. They gave us the tradition of lighting lights on Christmas trees. Lighting the fire promised a good harvest. With the adoption of Christianity, the New year began to be celebrated on September 1.
From the colorful presentation, the children learned how the tradition of celebrating the New year came to Russia. To celebrate the New year offered the inhabitants of Russia Peter I, in 1699 he issued a decree according to which on the night of January 1 each year (according to the Julian calendar), all residents of the country celebrate the arrival of the new year. The festivities lasted 7 days – during this period, every evening near the Kremlin guns thundered, and in private courtyards fired volleys of smaller guns. The gates of the houses were decorated with fir and juniper branches, and on the pillars hung pitch barrels, which were set on fire and gave the holiday solemnity. Already in those days, it was customary to decorate the spruce with wooden toys, nuts and all sorts of sweets. All the innovations were borrowed from its European neighbors. In our time, the new year is celebrated in the family, among relatives and close friends. Preparation for the celebration lasts the whole month of December. During this period, shop Windows are full of Christmas cards, gifts, bright signs. The main squares of almost all Russian cities are decorated with huge fir trees, under which Santa Claus and snow Maiden roam and various cartoon characters.
Students watched the presentation with interest, talked animatedly, told about their family traditions, guessed new year’s riddles.
At the end of the event, the children made a colorful Christmas card with their own hands.
