On December 5, 2019, a researcher of the Department of Museum and educational activities of the Bulgarian Museum-reserve Krivosheeva S. V. held a lesson on “Medieval ink”for students of the 2nd grade of the Bulgarian sanatorium boarding school.
It is difficult to meet a person who did not use ink, did not know what it is. But how many of us know the history of ink.
Once humanity has any need for something to record and preserve for posterity – there are special formulations for the letter.
At the lesson, the children learned the most ancient recipe for making ink – it is soot with gum (cherry glue) diluted with ordinary water and that in different countries the ink was called differently. For easy-to-wash inscriptions, the ink was made of soot and gum, and for strong inscriptions it was made of inky oak nuts with the same gum. In this lesson, the children themselves were able to prepare medieval ink, they write and even draw.
